Its mission is to become a leading center of the social sciences. As compared to other academic disciplines, the social sciences are more complicated and challenging. SSUA accepts the challenge and provides an environment designed to unite highly qualified intellectual researchers and entrepreneurs.
The SSUA Ulus Campus is located in the heart of the historical district of Ankara, Turkey’s capital. The campus includes some of the most beautiful and historical building in the area. The campus’s exceptional atmosphere, which results from the combination of art and culture, constitutes a social laboratory, a motivational environment, and an unparalleled opportunity for field observation.
The primary goal of education at SSUA is the development of highly intellectual scholars that will positively affect society (the state, private sector, and civil society), rather the training standard graduates. In addition to the expertise provided by its academic staff, the university offers students small classes in which every student can actively participate in lively debates, the opportunity to take part in institutional research projects, the potential for further study at other national and international universities through exchange programs, and job training at national and international institutions.
SSUA is a research university, focusing on post graduate studies, an interdisciplinary approach to the social sciences, acquisition of expertize via research, investigation of social phenomena in the East and West, large-scale research projects with the support of and in collaboration with other institutions.
As an enterprising university, SSUA considers social enterprise strategically crucial and aims to disseminate a culture of social enterprise at all levels, including students, professors, administrators, and the university’s partners. The university is developing a “Socio-Park” to encourage social enterprise and institutionalize social innovation. Socio-Parks, which are very rare, are institutional bodies that bring supply and demand (of scientific knowledge for social improvement and solving social problems) together, so as to organize them. Using the Social-Park and its infrastructure—social-experiment laboratories, simulation centers, ex-ante analysis hubs, and negotiation settings, SSUA aims to provide innovative solutions to social problems that are developed in a systematic and ongoing manner. The Socio-Park will enable SSUA to organize teams of academic staff (including sociologists, psychologists, business administrators, theologians, and political scientists) to provide the necessary solutions to the most pressing social problems. SSUA will play a strategic role in transforming social knowledge into community service from its campus in the capital city in the heart of Turkey. SSUA will become the destination of choice for all individuals and institutions that seek social solutions, transformation, change, and progress.
Furthermore, SSUA considers part of its mission the offering of socially services locally, nationally, and internationally. I am confident of the success of SSUA’s mission for the social sciences and the benefits its study can bring to society, as the university’s positive effect on society will always be at the forefront of our activities.
